A barbell, a set of bumper plates and somewhere safe to lift — that is the core of most garage gyms. Our color plates are 450 mm in diameter, the IWF standard, so every plate holds the bar at the same height for deadlifts. The 2-inch stainless insert fits any Olympic bar, including our 7 ft barbell rated to 1900 lb.
Pairs, singles or a full set?
If you are starting from zero, a set saves time: the 160 lb set (two 10s, two 25s, two 45s) covers squats, presses and early deadlifts. If you already own plates, fill the gaps instead — the 10, 15 and 25 lb plates come in pairs, the 35, 45 and 55 lb plates as singles. Large sets ship in several boxes and may arrive on different days.
Why bumper plates for a home gym
Rubber bumpers absorb the impact of a dropped bar and protect the floor, and our low-bounce 90 Shore A rubber is tested to 10,000 drops from six feet. They are made from virgin natural rubber with a curing process that removes the rubber smell — something you notice quickly in a closed garage.
Questions about bumper plates & barbells
Do I need bumper plates or iron plates?
Bumper plates are the safer choice if you deadlift or do Olympic lifts, because you can drop them; iron plates are thinner but should not be dropped.
What bar do I need for these plates?
Any 2-inch Olympic bar, such as our 7 ft barbell with 16.3-inch sleeves.
